Photographer and artist Alexandre Guirkinger regularly shoots for magazines like AD, M Le Monde and WSJ. In his own documentary works, he explores the idea of the frontier, with previous exhibitions including at the Rencontres d’Arles. His Ofr. exhibition focused on portraits of one of the North Marais bookstore’s regulars – Mathias Kiss. Born in 1972, Kiss spent 15 years as a painter-glazier for storied French crafts guild the Compagnons du Devoir, before being reborn as an artist. Since then his installations injecting a modern edge into the decorative arts have proved a magnet for private clients and luxury brands.

Alexandre & Marie Thumerelle

The hyperactive indie bookshop founders who are keeping it in the family

Brother and sister duo Marie and Alexandre Thumerelle set up their bookshop Ofr. with “zero francs” in the late 90s. Today Ofr. means “Open, Free, and Ready,” or “On Fire,” depending on the day and mood. The space is constantly reconfigured around their latest passions and projects, taking in exhibitions, catalogues, books, capsule collections, pop-up shops, gigs and festivals.
