Léon The Cat Hand-Fan, Natural

Made in
More details

Duvelleroy's tradition of painting portraits of their client’s pets on hand-fans goes back to the 19th century when Adolphe Thomasse was the official portraitist of this furry menagerie. Today the multi-talented and energetic Paris artist Marie-Victoire de Bascher revives this amusing heritage. She gives life to the adorable, pointy-eared Léon, a mischievous and playful cat, with a vintage style etching rendered in black and white and paired with a natural Sycamore wood frame.
(Comes in a pale-blue, cotton drawstring bag).

Designed in Paris. Handmade in Spain.
Sycamore wood sticks from China. Silk-screen printed cotton cloth, stiffened, hand-pleated, assembled to the frame and hand-cut.

The brand-heritage expert who reinvented historic fan house Duvelleroy

ESSEC graduate Eloise honed her professional nous working as a brand-heritage consultant for maisons such as Van Cleef & Arpels et Yves Saint Laurent. Just as she was casting around for her own project, she encountered Raphaëlle Le Baud, who was holding a fan – kickstarting an unlikely exchange that would see the duo resuscitate high-end 19th-century fan house Duvelleroy in 2010 (Eloise is now solo). Fashion world collaborations raised its profile, with 2014 seeing the launch of an e-shop and boutique – on the same street as Eloise’s gallery/artisan incubator Mayaro.
